Though genealogy has been popular since biblical times, with the publication of Alex Hailey's book, Roots, and the subsequent televison series of Roots, people have been prompted and inspired all over the world to learn more about their genealogy and family history which many people now refer to as their "roots." Genealogy is also commonly referred to as our family heritage. People have been researching their family heritage and genealogy for centuries and genealogy has become the number one hobby in the world. For many people, genealogy is more of a passion than a hobby.
